2016 grantee Isa Leshko is working on a book to be published this spring called Allowed to Grow Old: Portraits of Elderly Animals from Farm Sanctuaries. This book is comprised of her intimate photographic portraits of elderly rescued farm animals and includes essays from her and other activists. Her goal is for each image in the book to reveal something unique about the personality of the animal pictured. Viewers will hopefully appreciate that farm animals are sentient beings who think and feel and have distinct personalities. What is lost when these animals are not allowed to grow old? You can learn more about this project and her work here.
