2019 CAF grantee Shannon Johnstone received a grant for an art exhibition called “All Creatures Great and Small,” which will be on display from October 14 – November 10, 2019 at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. The exhibition features the work of five female artists, including Shannon, Lee Deigaard, CAF board member Jo-Anne McArthur, Traer Scott, and L.A. Watson. Each individual takes a different approach (fine art, journalism, video installation, and commercial work), the heart of their work explores the lives, traumas, triumphs, and most of all, the individuality and importance of a few of the many nonhumans with whom we share the planet.
Animal advocacy and ethical non-human animal representation are not typically themes explored with depth or breadth within fine arts. Our goal is to expand aesthetic inquiry and engage in the larger ongoing discourse on our relationship with animals. We are curating an art exhibition exploring moral considerations toward animal representation.
You can join the artists of All Creatures Great and Small on October 24, 2019 for a panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Keri Cronin from 4:30-5:30pm, and an Opening Reception to follow until 7pm.
